PRK Eye Surgery

I had PRK eye surgery done last year. It’s very similar to LASIK, but instead of cutting a flap in the epithelium, they scrape a portion of it away, allowing it to regrow like normal without having “flap problems” in the future. This is a video of one of the eyes. Oh, and it’s upside down, so as to avoid confusion. Enjoy.

After 11 months since my last message here, I’ve finnally done it :D
Did it like 3 weeks ago and everything is going fine, I still have to put some eyedrops 4 times a day but it’s ok.
It happens exactly like it has been said, right after the operation you see quite well with no discomfort, then 2 days of pain, and after that you have a blurry vision that gets better every day, after a week you see almost perfectly.

i had prk 5 months ago. I now ahve horrible dry eyes. Horrible. I cant drive at night and my eyes are blood red all day long.

  • howardsj9:

    hows ur vision now?

  • howardsj9:

why did he wait until after the eye was closed and then re opened to put in the bandage lense? isnt that a risk of infection
good to hear the success stories

Oh my yes. Ever poke yourself in the eye? Your corneas are extremely sensitive to any sort of foreign insult, be it sand, a finger, of a knife that removes the outer layer followed by a laser that takes off a bit of the middle layer. With the anesthesia though, it is supposed to be a completely painless process.

  • bauncsu:

no, they numb you with eyedrops. Take valium before and after and you will be good

the first 3-4 days my eyes hurt bad, had a lot of haze/halo, but soon after that everything cleared up. At night when I’m tired sometimes i have starbursts/some halo effects, but that is supposed to go away completely by month 3. It’s one of the best things I’ve done now that the discomfort is over

  • SeverEnergia:

Any halo effects or stuff like that?

Then yesterday (day 3 after the operation) the pain went away. There was a little sting from time to time but it was nothing compared to the previous two days. There was still extreme light sensitivity so I couldn’t open my eyes well. Then when I woke up this morning there was no more pain. My eyes were still kind of blurry but that was part of the healing process. Just keep on following your medication because that’s your best bet at this point to obtain 20/20 vision or better!

Had this PRK done 5 days ago. The procedure was painless. No need to be worried. After I went home there was no pain. The next day there was light sensitivity and I was confident that I have already healed. When I got home almost exactly 24 hours after the operation my eye started to feel a burning sensation. I felt like I had salt in my eyes. And I couldn’t open them because of extreme light sensitivity (even just a little light). I just followed my medication for 2 painful days. Be prepared!

They should have put the contact lens while the eye clamp was still on.

I had this procedure done 5 days ago, it does not hurt AT ALL during the surgery. Just be prepare to have 3-4 days of terrible pain (controlled by Percocet!). Wore glasses since age 6 and i’m 26 now and almost 20/20 after 5 days! Looking forward to more improvements over the following days!

Careful with any surgeries like this that are elective. Think twice before you do it!!!

I was suggested Lasik a year ago but just kept using contacts… if I had more money I’d get it here in Hong Kong.. PRK look smore reliable

  • xk2448:

I had PRK yesterday in Athens, It is not painfull at all. Today I feel like I have a litlle piece of dust in my right eye but it goes better and better. I use eye drops almost every 30 minutes. I can see but not very well because I wear healing contact lenses. My doctor will remove them in two days from now. It cost me 2000 euros

  • rob3391:

this was a horrible experience it was worth it but it felt like my eyes were being gouged out while sand was being sprinkled into my eyes.

  • exhaviour:

I had PRK a year and a half ago. I have come out of it with 20/20 acuity in both eyes however I did retain some moderate star-bursting/haloing from the procedure which makes night-time driving a nuisance in cities at times. A small price to pay I guess for such amazing vision change, considering the top ‘E’ on the eye-chart was blurry for me before.

  • SupraGuy8246:

I’m having PRK done Thursday!!!! No more 20/650 vision!!! But this video gives me the creeps lol. But the surgery will be worth it.

  • SupraGuy8246:

Yes. They use numbing drops in your eyes and they give you valium to keep you relaxed.
